GUIDED MEDITATION - An Experience of Creative Meditation

ASPECTS OF CREATIVE MEDITATION

These specific steps cultivate the needed skills for us to live more mindfully utilizing our creative capacity as a force for good in the world.

ALIGNMENT

Its three stages are:

1. The body sits relaxed.

2. The emotions are stilled, so that they do not interfere ("quiet as a mountain lake").

3. Then we observe the "monkey" mind (as it has been called because it jumps around). This, too, must be quieted and, if it leaps away, be brought back to stillness.

CONCENTRATION

Bring our awareness fully into the present moment.

VISUALIZATION

Imagine a meadow filled with grasses and flowers. Feel the moist ground under your feet. Smell the air and listen to the birdsong carried on a warm breeze. The meadow is alive with the sounds of nature. Sunlight bathes the day. Bees are collecting nectar and pollen, working independently yet together, transforming nectar into honey. Their golden liquid is shared with others. There is enough for all. The cycle of gathering and sharing is an act of joy and service.

REFLECTIVE MEDITATION

Aligned, we imaginatively raise our centre of awareness towards the Soul and endeavour to enter into communion through a chosen seed thought like “I am a living, loving being” or consideration of a spiritual quality, such as goodwill, joy, peace or the realisation of world need.

RECEPTIVE MEDITATION

Keep an open, listening receptive attitude. Listen for new ideas that may drop into our awareness over time, from the intuition.

CONTEMPLATION

Consider how these new ideas can be used in our life and in the world.

RADIATION AND BLESSING

"Breathe out" the ideas as forms of thought into the great stream of mental substance, which is ever playing upon the human awareness. Using our creative imagination we radiate light and loving understanding to everyone in the world.

“Ultimately, human history is nothing but the record of human thought”. - Dalai Lama

A Blessing

May the light of your soul guide you.

May the light of your soul bless the work you do with the secret love and warmth of your heart.

May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul.

May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those who work with you and to those who see and receive your work.

May your work never weary you.

May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement.

May you be present in what you do.

May you never become lost in the bland absences.

May the day never burden.

May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams, possibilities and promises.

May evening find you gracious and fulfilled.

May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected.

May your soul calm, console and renew you.

SERVICE

“Our greatest service is simply to find ways to strengthen and live closer to our goodness. It requires everyday attention, an awareness of all that diminishes and distracts us from our true nature. Every act of kindness and goodness creates freedom for all of us. Every time we become more transparent to the light in us, we restore the light in the world.”

       – Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen

"When we meditate...we are joining on inner levels with others working for the same purpose...the more we recognize this and tune in to and work with the laws of the larger Life, the more serene and effective we become, and one of the most practical steps in this direction is creative meditation."

        - Dr Roberto Assagioli, on The Important Role of Creative Meditation
